On Wednesday evening I went to the Dan Deacon gig in Andrews Lane Theatre. Of the now 5 times that I've seen him it was by far the best gig I'd seen him play and I was sorely tempted to go back for more last night. Ultimately though I decided against it because I felt that going back for seconds might just spoil things (also it would make it 3 times that I'd seen him and his ensemble this week).
I'm still happy enough that I made the right decision, especially as he told me that he would possibly be back in late August/early September but there is one thing that happened last night that sounds pretty fantastic, to quote Nialler9:
the human gauntlet actually went out the doors of Andrew’s Lane, up the side alley, around Exchequer St, around Trinity Street and back to the venue
That's far more impressive than what happened on Wednesday when the tunnel disintegrated after people went through it a second time and people got back into the venue through the side entrance. According to Nialler the whole task took 15 minutes, another person told me that they were out there for 20 and that taxi drivers were stopping on Exchequer St. to see what the hell was going on. God knows where the band thought the crowd had gone. And of course, there were cameras present ...

I was there Wednesday too and I was impressed that the human tunnel snaked along for as far as it did. (Reports from Barcelona suggested that aspect of the show wasn't working.) It would have continued even further had a bouncer not opened a side door into ALT causing people beside it to leave the tunnel and go back inside.
Also, I think Deacon made reference to the fact that his set on Thurs would be the exact same so that put me off the idea of going again.
I wonder is that late-August/early-September comment a reference to Electric Picnic? His gig there last year was awesome - though people said it was the exact same set to the previous Vicar St gig.
Anyway, Wednesday night was awesome too. The crowd participation really does add to it - even the hands on other people's heads during the intro to 'Snookered' was kinda magic.
I was there last night and after I went through the tunnel the second time (on Exchequer St) I cheated and just walked back to the door. so did most people around me (in my defence, it was all a bit confusing and my arms were a little tired) and the venue was about half-full when we got there.
though if I'm reading what nialler9 says right, then there must have been enough people still out there to make a snake that went all the way round Trinity Street and round to the venue? I noticed it was a while before the place was full again and they played 'Crystal Cat'.
if they were playing a third night, they could get it perfectly organised and the bouncers could stop people coming back in who weren't in 'human gauntlet' formation!
cracking gig though. thought Teeth Mountain were fantastic (bought their LP on they way out) and Future Islands were terrible (personal taste-wise that is, they seemed to get a great reaction from the crowd).
I thought Teeth Mountain were alright (but am utterly in love with their drummer) and that Future Mountain were really good.
People seem to be in quite uniform opinion about adventure ...
Teeth Mountain are so much better on record. Even their live album sounds a lot more defined and less overloaded with noise than their set did on Wednesday. I really enjoyed Future Mountain too, mostly for the energy the lead guy put into it.
Let's not even talk about Adventure.
