The kids are alright.

Urrgh, awful post title, just dreadful.

What's not awful is a song I heard played from someone's mobile phone to me when I was in the pub on Friday night. That's possibly the first time that I've ever said that about music I've heard coming from a mobile phone, my ringtone is Joanna Newsom going "Na na na na na na na na na" and even I find it annoying (I'm also aware that that segway is as bad as the thread title).

The song was rough and hissy and very very lo-fi; reminiscent of music that came out of American garages in the 60's. Listening to it now on my computer I still really like but it doesn't sound any more professional or any "nicer" than it did on the phone. That shouldn't be surprising really considering that the band who made it are 11 12 year old kids from the 6th class of a primary school in Sallynoggin. There's probably gangs of stylelessly dressed trust funders roaming Brooklyn right now (by the way, have you seen LATFH yet?) who would swap their most treasured three wolves howling at the moon T-Shirt to sound like these kids do. It's totally unfair to classify this as "outsider music", though judging it by some standards it possibly is, I just think that it's a really cool little thing.
