Unconfirmed but I've been told highly likely.

Don't know when.

i'd be very tempted, but 150 Euros..??? ouch...
Argh! I'd love to go but I can't justify €150 per ticket......maybe.
It's insane money but I've never seen him and might never getthe chance too.
Great news Ian. Sounds like a lot but probably our last chance to see th man, and only 50 notes more than the Police etc. charge...doubt it'll be in th stadium though
Padre Cruz
Ha ha, that's rape, he can go fuck himself, I hate these artists of elevated artistic importance who think they are justified in charging prices like this. It is immoral. Fuck Tom Waits.
well maybe the correct term isn't immoral, but it's defo a piss-take. It's pretty much apt though for the sort of Ranelagh-side youngish middle classes (watchers of The View, patrons of Jo'Burger) that constitute the bulk of his fan base.
I went to Bobo's for lunch yesterday. Paying a tenner for that shit made me feel raped.
I'm sure there's plenty of old-fucks that love Tom too considering the fact that it's 30 years since he put out his first record.
Storkboy,
1 - Tom Waits has fuck all to do with his ticket prices, even if they are extortionate.
2 - "It's pretty much apt though for the sort of Ranelagh-side youngish middle classes (watchers of The View, patrons of Jo'Burger) that constitute the bulk of his fan base" this sentences stupidity knows no bounds.

No.
Just no. Were you on holiday for the whole Radiohead ticket price debate over on Jim's blog?

Well ... his booking agent would know the type of guaruntee other acts would be commanding for playing here. Especially heritage acts like Cohen or Young and is likely looking for similar. Tom is fussy about the venues he plays though and a reduced capacity place like the NCH means that the ticket price has to go up to cover the guaruntee. So to some extent Waits is responsible for the prices.
I can't wait for the Fugazi reunion if it happens when they play for the equivalent of $10. The way things are going people would be able to see them for €0.50
For clarification, the post you're replying to Rory is a different Ian to the blog author (me). I've posted all the other "Ian" comments here.
Ah, ok.
My sentence is nowhere near as stupid as handing over 150 euro to see Tom Waits playing a regular gig. Whatever sort of horrifically stereotypical assumptions I've made about his fan base.
But hey that's what comment boxes are for...
Now I'm off to Fallon and Byrne to buy some nice cheeses to enjoy while listening to Tom Waits.
Those Tom Waits fans are notorious for the cheese alright.
You could see 10 gigs in Whelans for that. And a good majority of those bands would be making far more interesting and relevant music recently than Waits.
Good luck to him tho. no doubt there'll be a queue of heads ready to pay it.
Sorry for the confusion - it just used my name from the google log in!
Radiohead like Waits don't sit around deciding ticket prices, their management or people or whatever do and I don't think its the same thing. Correct me if I'm wrong. The probably could be more vigilant about tickets not costing that much, but artists arent in the business of trying to kill their own business if its there, I imagine.
Furthermore the difference in ticket prices across Europe surely illustrates local discretion being used by promoters. I'm willing to guess that Waits tickets in other European venues won't cost 150 Euro.
i can't spell...wheres the edit when you need it?!
Storkboy ? i don't get it. i don't think you'll be buying up tickets at 150 and selling them for what you deem to be the right price for example 100 euro. so why ask tom or his management or whoever sets the price to do it. the tickets cost what they can be sold for.
i work there. i haven't heard anything about this.
